Dendritic Solidification of the Primary Ferritic Phase

Due to the minor solvability of the ferritic phase, carbonis redistributed during solidification. The interaction between carbondiffusion and curvature effects results in a dendritic morphology. Typicaldendritic grain selection phenomena are reproduced by this calculation:The dendrites which have a more favourable orientation with respect tothe temperature gradient overgrow the other ones.
